Lenten Study

"Enough"

Discovering Joy Through Simplicity and Generosity

Money has great power in our lives.  Used wisely, it is one key to accomplishing our goals, providing for our needs, and fulfilling our life purpose. In recent years, many of us ignored the wisdom of the past when it came to managing and spending our money.  Credit card debt soared, savings rates plummeted, and our home equity became something to be tapped into and spent rather than a source of security in retirement.  We felt an insatiable desire for more.  And we found ourselves spending tomorrow’s money today in order to have what we hoped would satisfy.  The result of all of this was not greater happiness and satisfaction, but greater stress and anxiety.

"Enough" is an invitation to rediscover the Bible’s wisdom when it comes to prudent financial practices.  In these pages are found the keys to experiencing contentment, overcoming fear, and discovering joy through simplicity and generosity.  This book could change your life, by changing your relationship with money.  This study is suitable for individual reading or for small-group study.

Study groups will meet Sunday mornings and Wednesday evening for five sessions.  Sign up in fellowship hall.

Books are $9.00 per person and can be purchased in Fellowship Hall on Sundays and in the church office Monday – Thursday.

BELIEVING GOD

Do you take God at His Word, believing what He has told us, or do you just believe in His existence and the salvation He offers?

This study by Beth Moore is based on Isaiah 43:10, Believing God: Experiencing a Fresh Explosion of Faith explores what it means to believe God.  Through studying the lives of Abraham, Moses, and others from Hebrews 11, as examples of persons who believed God, Beth encourages others to deepen their own trust in God and receive a fresh word from Him.

Thursday mornings at 9:00 am

Begins Thursday March 4, 2010

Introducing The Discipleship Project

While they were talking and discussing, Jesus himself came near and went with them...

Luke 24:15 (NRSV)

The Discipleship Project is a tool for stimulating, promoting and measuring adult spiritual education.  Our goal is to encourage adults in our congregation to take responsibility and initiative to go deeper in their faith, choosing the courses and medium they would like to study.  The education committee will provide a list of possible learning opportunities or you can design your own.  Examples include the Bible Sampler course, a flexible scripture reading list for those who want to get a feel for Bible reading; the Christian Reading Sampler course, a suggested reading list of Christian books from which participants select three books of various styles, subject material and difficulty, and many more.

The greatest strength of this program is its flexibility.  Each person chooses the opportunities they wish to participate in.  On the bulletin board in fellowship hall you will find colorful, Course Cards with information that describe each available course.  The front of the card displays the title of the course and icons.  The icons inform the holder of the time commitment, whether it is a group or individualized learning experience, and whether the course takes place at home, at the church, or at an offsite location.  A quick glance at the front of the card provides answers to most questions people ask.  When a course is completed, the individual signs their name in the space on the card and hands it in to the church office to receive a number of Course Credits.

Each course is worth one to five credits.  The Course Credits make the intangible value of spiritual growth tangible.  Our goal is to have each member of the congregation earn at least 5 credits per year.  Check out the bulletin board and get started earning your credits today!
