Administration CouncilJim Schmiedlin, Chair

The purpose of the Administrative Council is to provide for planning and implementing a program of nurture, outreach, witness and resources in the church. It is the central leadership body of the church.  The Council typically envisions, plans, implements, and annually evaluates the mission and ministries of the church.  The Council make-up includes committee and council chairpersons, at-large members, and lay members to the Annual Conference.

The 2008 Goals of the Administrative Council are to:

bulletConsciously develop better church communications.
bulletProvide opportunities and encourage the church family to be actively involved in functions and activities sponsored by the church.
bulletIdentify strategies (steps) that will help achieve our goals and, focus on the things we need to do better through an organized planning process.
bulletContinue to increase church outreach in our local area and beyond.
bulletEnhance and grow our financial resources.
bulletInclude the ministry of our Circuit “MANY HANDS, ONE HEART” in our planning and awareness.
bulletProvide good strong church leadership by focusing on our church mission: “SHARING THE WORD OF GOD, SHOWING THE LOVE OF CHRIST, AND SPREADING THE JOY OF FAITH.”

 

 Administrative Committees

TrusteesDoug Wilson, Chair

The purpose of the Trustees is to:  supervise and maintain all property belonging to the congregation so ministries can be effective; report annually to the Charge Conference the state of all church property, equipment, investments and resources; and review the insurance program for the church and verify that the church is in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

The 2008 Goals of the Trustees are to:

bulletContinue to strengthen both community outreach and membership growth.
bulletMake serving a more rewarding Christian experience for our congregation.

 

Finance CommitteeKaren Essex, Chair

The purpose of the Finance Committee is to manage the financial system of the Lodi UMC.  It is the committee’s responsibility to manage, disperse and raise the finances of the Lodi UMC so that the mission and vision of the congregation can be achieved.  This committee consists of:  Finance Chairperson, Administrative Council Chairperson, Financial Secretary, Treasurer, Trustee Representative, Lay Leader, Pastor and appointed Members.

The 2008 Goals of the Finance Committee are to:

bulletContinue to pay down debt.
bulletEstablish an Elevator Fund.
bulletCommunicate on a regular basis.

 

Staff Parish Relations CommitteeSteve VanLankvelt, Chair

The purpose of the Staff Parish Relations Committee is to be a liaison between all paid staff of the church and the congregation, and to direct the church in the hiring of non-pastoral staff.

The 2008 Goals of the Staff Parish Relations Committee are to:

bulletCreate a job description for Pastoral Assistant.
bulletReview all job descriptions, update them were needed, and create hard and soft copies of all of them to be stored in the church office.
bulletFind a Vice Chair for this committee.

 

Leadership Development CommitteeScott Walters, Chair

The purpose of the Leadership Development Committee is to ensure that our congregation has a process for discovering, inviting, nominating, and supporting people for Christian spiritual leadership positions essential to the ministries of nurture and outreach in our congregation and community.

The 2008 Goal of the Leadership Development Committee is to:

bulletHave a waiting list for any vacancies in the leadership of the church (in other words, FILL the vacancies of the leadership roster).

 

Wills, Memorials and Benevolent Giving CommitteeJeff Nevens, Chair

The purpose of the Wills, Memorials and Benevolent Giving Committee is to: recognize, document and fulfill the wishes of benefactors for their Memorial and Benevolent gifts; to prudently preserve the principal and ensure earnings of these gifts; and to appropriately distribute the assets and earnings of these gifts.

The 2008 Goal of the Wills, Memorials and Benevolent Giving Committee is:

Program Committees

Worship Committee:  

The purpose of the Worship Committee is to help our church offer settings for vital worship in which people experience the presence of God and grow in the knowledge of God.

The 2008 Goals of the Worship Committee are to:

bulletDevelop new ideas for Worship.
bulletInvolve more people in Worship.
bulletEncourage more active committee members for Worship.
bulletProvide Youth representation on the committee.
bulletOrganize volunteers to run the sound system.

 

Education CommitteeDebra Oetzman, Chair

The purpose of the Education Committee is to reach and teach all God’s Children. The LUMC Education Committee will strive, within our education programs, to:  reach every person with the good news of God’s love through Jesus Christ; to teach every person the principles of God’s word so that they may grow towards spiritual maturity; and to equip every person for effective service in the Kingdom of God.

The 2008 Goals of the Education Committee are to:

bulletMail monthly reminders to Sunday School Classes.
bulletEvaluate curriculum this summer.
bulletContinue pursuing opportunities for adult education.

 

Outreach Committee:  

The purpose of the Outreach Committee is:  to lead by the Holy Spirit, igniting a compassion for Mission in the ongoing life of this congregation; to highlight specific Mission Projects each month; to coordinate Mission studies with the United Methodist Women and the Education Committee; to provide Financial and Spiritual support for the ongoing missions and church projects; and to provide Education on Christian Social Concerns.

The 2008 Goals of the Outreach Committee are to:

bulletSet-up, announce and promote the calendar of special (monthly) mission opportunities.
bullet

Keep the Mission bulletin board current, i.e., 

Highlight: Mission opportunities including mission work camps, locally and worldwide

bullet

Respond to emergencies and natural disaster when they happen.

bulletKeep in contact with college students.
bulletOffer and organize a mission study for our congregation.
bullet

Support the United Methodist Women in all their activities for mission outreach - especially promoting the School of Christian Mission for ALL members of our congregation.

           (NOTE:  This year’s School of Christian Mission dates are July 21-25.)

bullet

Create an Outreach Committee brochure for the congregation so they know what we do.

bulletArrange for a mission speaker (this year that will be Paul Webster on June 22).
bulletRecognize several Social Concerns (a focus for this year could be River Haven and Bread for Life).

 

Evangelism CommitteeFae Mulcahy, Chair

The purpose of the Evangelism Committee is to reach out to fellow Christians in our congregation by providing meaningful faith experiences, encouraging participation in church activities by all members, personal witness and to reach out beyond our doors to the people in our local community through personal contact, faith events and advertising.  We are also called to work closely with other Committees within the church to further the spirit of fellowship.

The 2008 Goals of the Evangelism Committee are to:

bulletReach out to all the inactive members who are no longer attending church for whatever reasons, which is an ongoing process to achieve through targeted activities.
bulletSpread God’s message through guest speakers or events.
bulletPublish a NEW Church Directory.
bulletReach out to new members to make them feel welcome and needed in the church.
 

Ways of achieving stated goals:

bulletSend personal handwritten notes and letters to inactive members and do follow-up notes and letters in 3-4 months.
bulletBishop Lee is to speak on Sunday, April 6, 2008 at both services.
bulletChurch Directory WAS published in November.
bullet

Sponsor Dinner for New Members and their families.

 

Fellowship CouncilMarlene Sharkey, Chair

The purpose of the Fellowship Council is to plan, schedule and conduct special activities that encompass the age span of our church family.

The 2008 Goals of the Fellowship Council are to:

bulletOffer a variety of fellowship opportunities throughout the year.
bulletIncrease participation by more actively advertising & providing early notice of events.

 

Council on Youth MinistriesMax Love, Chair

The purpose of the Lodi United Methodist Council on Youth Ministries is to oversee the nurturing and strengthening of youth (grades 7-12) in their journey of discipleship in the name of Jesus Christ.  In accomplishing this purpose the Council on Youth Ministries shall focus on planning, supporting, policy making, and facilitating the youth ministry of the congregation.

The 2008 Goals of the Council on Youth Ministries are to:

bulletHelp youth find their relationship with God.
bulletInvolve Youth more with the worship service.
bulletRemember to be a true disciple.

 

Preschool Center BoardJim Schmiedlin, Representative

The purpose of the Preschool Center Board is to plan and organize the activities of the “Lodi Preschool Center”, owned and operated by the Lodi United Methodist Church.
