Service Project Recognition

The huge task of painting the exterior of the church is nearing completion.  We are all thankful for the lead role Bill and Peggy Falkenstein took in organizing the job along with son, Sam.  Others who provided a helping hand with preparation and trim painting included:  Curt Hossman, Mark Affeldt, Cal Cramer, Tammy Endres, Mark Essex, and Jim Schmiedlin.  We also appreciated the expert paint and stain product consultation that Lyndon Swartz, Sherwin-Williams representative, gave throughout the project.  The church really looks great!

On September 19-20, 2008, Joyce Steckel and Ralph Luck organized a very successful church garage sale and Rhonda and Andy Hankins ran a food stand in conjunction with the sale.  We would like to thank everyone who donated items for the sale as well as those who helped during the sale itself.  The $900+ that was raised was designated for the Elevator Project Fund.

We had a visit from the Carpet Raider recently.  Blake Anderson, who is helping clean the church during Dennis Froh’s surgery recuperation period, showed up with his professional carpet cleaning equipment.  Blake has considerable experience cleaning carpets and has started his own business.  The carpet in Fellowship Hall and the Narthex is now like new.  During the next few weeks he also plans to clean some of the carpets in our Sunday School classrooms.  If you are interested in carpet cleaning service please remember Blake (445-0272).

Give Your Time & Talent To Our Children You Will Not Regret It!

"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." (Proverbs 22:6)

One of the great treasures of our congregation is our youth. From "kiddie keep" to cherub choir, from Sunday school to first communion, and from youth groups to confirmation, we know how important it is to teach and help the children grow in faith and knowledge as they grow in age. And what better way to give back to the church than through the youth.

It is important to remember that not all ways of "giving" to our congregation involve money. Countless opportunities exist where the offering of your time and talents can make a difference in the life of a child, and fill a need within our own church.

"And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD; and great shall be the peace of thy children." (Isaiah 54:13)

We have an outstanding pre-school that embraces volunteer help. Not to mention volunteering for a position on the pre-school board of directors. Being a bible mentor provides opportunity for one-on-one teaching. Or sign up to become a Sunday school teacher if a group environment is more your style. We are blessed with outstanding music programs that could always use a helping hand. How about lending your time to our teenagers who are on their journey to become fully confirmed members of the church? If the great outdoors is more your style, being a camp volunteer may be your calling.

These are just some of the important roles you can play to foster the development of our children. And if you don’t see something matches your talents, ask any of the leaders of our church and they can help guide you to a need that we have. Give it a try – you will be rewarded in so many ways!

"While we try to teach our children all about life, our children teach us what life is all about."     Angela Schwindt

2009 Giving Envelopes

A New Year; A New Process!

The Finance Committee is introducing a new way for you to receive your Giving Envelopes!  Look in your mailboxes this December for Giving Envelopes to arrive.  This mailing will include envelopes for the first 3 months of 2009.  Then every quarter after that, you will receive a mailing for the following 3 months.

The cost of this quarterly mail program is the same as the old program (a year’s supply of envelopes in one box).  Our hope is this new way of receiving giving envelopes will be more convenient for you, and it even includes return envelopes for those Sunday’s when you are unable to attend!  Your assigned envelope/member number will remain the same, so please continue writing it on your check (it helps the money counters).

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask Karen Essex, Finance Chair, or any member of the Finance Committee.

Thank you for your continued giving and support of our church; with your help we are able to continue the Lord’s mission.

We are well underway!  Walls are framed, roof trusses are on.  Check out the progress in pictures at http://www.hfhsca.org/current_builds.htm . If you haven’t signed up for a workday, don’t worry, you still can!  Just contact Bill Schleichert at (608)-635-2452 or fatkat@centurytel.net.  We’ll be going each Saturday through at least September.

Lots purchased in Reedsburg
We closed on 2 lots in Reedsburg last month and held a rally to kick things off.  Lots of people ready to start building!  We will be reconvening interested folks around the last week in July to plan the next steps for a build there.  We will also likely start family selection shortly, so get the word out if you know of families who can use housing help.  Details for them can be found here:  http://www.hfhsca.org/buying_a_house.htm .

Warehouse Sales
The Habitat Warehouse Re-sale Shop is open for business every 1st and 3rd Saturday from 8 AM – 1 PM.  LOTS and LOTS of building materials, cabinets, hardware, appliances, and plumbing, both new and recycled for a fraction of retail.  Have a remodeling project or a workshop needing cabinets or counters?  This is the place to come!  Contact Bruce Koch at 608-370-2083 or lbkoch@verizon.net.  Details and map here:  http://www.hfhsca.org/events.htm .

Help Wanted!

We have lots of ways you can volunteer, whatever talent you have. Looking for web site help, warehouse organization and retail help, members for a marketing and PR committee, and lots of other areas.  Contact Habitat president, Tim Escher, at 608-592-5838 or tim@eschers.com for details.

Donate!

Of course, any update wouldn’t be complete without giving you a chance to donate directly to the mission to provide decent, affordable housing to those in need.  To give your support, go here:  https://www.habitat.org/cd/giving/donate.aspx?link=6 .  Be sure click the orange "Designate Your Gift" button and enter the name of this chapter: Habitat for Humanity Sauk-Columbia Area.

Thanks for all you do to help our neighbors into decent housing!
